Washington Grain Commission Provides Over $2 Million for Wheat and Barley Research

The Washington Grain Commission continues to be a major funding partner for wheat and barley research at Washington State University. In fiscal year 2024, the Commission provided over $2 million to WSU and USDA-ARS researchers to support a wide range of research, including wheat breeding and variety testing, the development of a falling numbers rapid test, herbicide resistance and weed management, disease and insect management, and much more.

The Commission held its 2024 Wheat and Barley Research Day on February 13 in Pullman. This annual review provides growers and other industry members the opportunity to see results from research the Commission funded the previous year and hear about new research ideas that the Commission will consider for funding in the coming fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024.

Researchers from WSU and the USDA-ARS gave brief presentations and answered grower and commissioner questions on their proposed or previously funded research. The WSU projects that received funding in fiscal year 2024 are summarized in the 2023-2024 WSU Wheat and Barley Research Progress Report.
